How to Set a Dynamic IP and DNS Address for Local Area Connection in Windows XP and Windows 7

How to Set a Static IPv4 Address for Local Area Connection in Windows XP

Go to Network Connections.

Category View: Start > Control Panel > Networks and Internet Connections > Network Connection

Or, Classic View: Start > Control Panel > Network Connection

Right Click on Local Area Connection and then choose Properties.

At the Local Area Connection Properties, highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) – make sure it is checked, then click the Properties button.

At the Internet Protocol Properties, choose Obtain IP Address Automatically and Obtain DNS Address es Automatically



How to Set a Static IPv4 Address for Local Area Connection in Windows 7

Go to Network and Sharing Center then choose Change Adapter Settings (at the left menu)

Start > type in Network and sharing center then click it

Or, Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and sharing center

To 7. Follow same step above.

  1. Nice and Quick! Setting the IP address to static or dynamics has always been useful to home users. I worked with ISP tech support before and it wasn't only a thousand times that I had to assists customers through these steps of setting the IP address or the Preferred DNS addresses.
