How to Set a Static IPv4 Address for Local Area Connection in Windows XP
1. Go to Network Connections.
Category View: Start > Control Panel > Networks and Internet Connections > Network Connection
Or, Classic View: Start > Control Panel > Network Connection
2. Right Click on Local Area Connection and then choose Properties.
3. At the Local Area Connection Properties, highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) – make sure it is checked, then click the Properties button.
4. At the Internet Protocol Properties, choose use the following IP address it will enable the three boxes below
5. Fill out the IP address, Click the Subnet Mask to auto populate then put your default gateway address
6. Optional there are two DNS address boxes below you may also place preferred DNS addresses here.
7. Hit Apply then click OK to close the box.
How to Set a Static IPv4 Address for Local Area Connection in Windows 7
1. Go to Network and Sharing Center then choose Change Adapter Settings (at the left menu)
Start > type in Network and sharing center then click it
Or, Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and sharing center
2. To 7. Follow same step above.
