Spybot Search and Destroy (here to referred as SSD) is one of my preferred anti malware because of its ability to detect and remove most malicious software in the circulation today as well as because it is totally FREE. Safer-Network, the organization behind this wonderful software is kind enough to get their best shot in this freeware product that they have.
I often use this together with their rootkit detection tool RootAlyzer for thorough cleaning of the system. It also has real time protection, the Tea Timer which is comparable if not better in terms of performance to those available commercially.
