Hi!
I run into some problems with my computer. its windows xp and its not turning on now. yesterday i had to restart it for some installed updates. now it only shows a black screen with some writings.
One says it has missing system32\\config\\system
I tried to look for solutions for this in the internet but can\'t seem to understand the instruction. I hope you can give me instructions at my level of familiarity with computers.
Thank you in advance!

Hi Angelita, here is the first video on getting into the recovery console. Next video about copying system file into system32\config\system is coming shortly.

Hi Angelita!
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting your question! you are in the right place.
The Problem:
Your computer's problem - as it says it is - is that the windows\system32\config\system is missing (or corrupted). So what is this file? simply put it, it is the sanity of your computer and your computer is either unable to find it or is unable to read it.
The solution:
We need to put back a good copy of the system file into its proper place - the system\config\system. But where to find one? system restore, if enabled, regularly creates a backup of this file and places it at c:\system~1\_resto~1\. We need to copy a backup from that location to its real location.
How to do it:
First up, you'll need a Windows XP cd of any edition.
Then we need to load the recovery console to do a command line copying of the file.
The process is really technical but if you really want to resolve it on your own I will support you with that. I'll create two videos for you and for all who have the same problem. First, about how to go to the recovery console, then second, about doing system restore from the recovery console (copying the backup file into the original location).
Please watch out for those video which I'll publish in this same site today.

Ceasar
