Kay
Hello,
I got a virus on my computer and I get a blue IRQL screen. When I try to boot my computer it gets to the main screen then shuts down. System restore does not function (blocked by group policy) and so I tried booting from BIOS and it cannot find the "_resto~1" file once I type it shows can't find. Don't have any other way to boot and need my business info off my computer. I realize I can try to plug in the Hard Drive into another computer but again if there is anyway of restoring this to an earlier date, I'd appreciate the help. Thanks for your time,

Hi Kay!
ReplyDeleteThank you for letting me know about your computer's issue. I'll be happy to assist you with this.
Please fill provide me the following information.
1. Is Operating System XP, Vista or Windows 7?
2. When you say IRQL screen are you referring to a blue screen with white text? if so, please provide me the Stop error code under technical information.
Sorry it was XP and yes it gave the IQRL blue screen with text. It said STOP: 0x000000D1 (0xb8618000, 0X00000002, 0XB7E99CCB. At this point I've taken out my Hard Drive and kept the info by installing it into another PC and had to reformat this PC. In the future though, if I'm getting to the part where I wanto to restore and the "_resto~1" command fails is that mean that the virus has taken over my restore setting capabilities as well ? It seems like the virus took every option away until we scanned the hard drive (on the other PC) and took off some viruses. I just wanted to understand how to bypass and restore since the PC shut down and said the resote option was blocked (when it wasn't ). Sorry so much info, I hope I didn't just make it more confusing :)
ReplyDeleteOh and thanks for such quick response, really appreciated :)
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome! sorry to hear that you have to reformat your hard drive.
ReplyDeleteI hope you don't have to go through this same problem in the future. This actually requires a different line of troubleshooting as this must have been caused by a driver conflict or malfunction.
For this kind of issue. You may start with logging on using Last Known Good Configuration. If it fails try VGA mode and then safemode. Usually it runs at this point. Now you can proceed to identify the failing driver, reinstall it when necessary. And if it is caused by MalWare, scan and remove these malware.
Other cases of Stop 0xD1 (0x000000d1) are due to bad parts such as a failing RAM or Graphics card. This requires replacement of such part.
I hope you find these info useful. And let me thank you again for bringing this up!
I used one of your videos on youtube to try and repair \windows\system32\config\system.
ReplyDeleteBut now I get a ntfs error and it asks for a password. I tried hitting enter - but it won't let go.
