Original Message from:

Hello,
I am using Windows Xp Pro
When I try to use the system information tool in start menu it says \" Cannot Collect Information
Windows Management Files May Be Moved Or Missing\" Is their a Simple Way to fix this?

Hi Michael!

Here is an Article that provides information about the usual cause of this issue and the troubleshooting steps to follow.

Root Cause:

"The error message occurs if the Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) service is not started. This can occur if the service is disabled, if a dependent service is not started, or if a problem is preventing the WMI service from starting. The System Information utility will be able to collect information after the WMI service is started."

Resolution:

To resolve this issue, make sure that the following services start correctly:

  • Event Log
  • Windows Management Instrumentation
  • Remote Procedure Call (RPC)

Steps:

  1. Run Services.msc.
  2. At the list Services find the service you want to edit. Below shows Event log in the Services list.

  1. Double click on Event log to open the Properties dialogue box.
  2. Set the Start up Type to Automatic

  1. Repeat all these for all the other services.
