How to Manually Uninstall Windows Updates in Windows Vista and Windows 7

It is important to install Windows Updates as early as they become available. These are tidbits of software Microsoft creates usually to patch known bugs or issues to their products such as the operating systems and also to add additional features and capabilities. Oftentimes these updates install themselves automatically without being noticed. Sometimes however, updates installation may fail.

Failed updates are corrected automatically by the system as it tries to re-download and install these updates. However, some cases requires manual intervention.

This means, uninstalling the identified update and letting the system reinstall it. You can also opt to manually download and install the said update from microsoft.com. Either way, the purpose is to make sure that each update is installed properly.

Steps

1. Type uninstall a program at the start search. At the search results click uninstall a program under the Control Panel group. The Programs and Features window will appear.

  1. This is NOT how to manually uninstall an update. This IS how to use the automated tool to remove an update. Your title is incorrect. My list of installed updates is blank (and I am certain that there are many updates installed). I was looking for the MANUAL way to remove an update, and your post was not helpful at all. It would have been helpful if I didn't already know how to find the automated removal tool, and if it worked.
